The Montessori Method of instruction has many benefits. Some of the primary focuses of Montessori instruction are in independence, community, and freedom within limits. These factors create an environment where students are supported in their learning and are able to independently and collaboratively learn.
Just some of the many benefits of Montessori:
Materials and methods have built-in self-correction and assessment methods. Children are taught to assess their own work and act confidently as a result. Children have freedom within limits. Teachers set the limits and boundaries and allow children to participate within those bounds. Children are able to work on whatever they would like, whenever they would like, wherever they would like as long as it is within those limits. A community of individuals. Montessori values each child’s unique learning styles and attributes. These differences come together to create a sense of community that all participants share in. From partner and group work, to mentor roles of older children in the multi-age classroom.
Children are taught from a very early age to be independent. This strengthens their self-esteem and self-concept. Children hang up their coats, get their own materials, clean-up after themselves and more.
Student-led exploration. One of the teacher’s roles is to facilitate learning, curiosity, and self-motivation.
