"What about choking hazards?"
-Teresha It is the child care professional's responsibility to supervise and monitor children at all times while they are in care. If an item or activity poses risks that are too great, such as a choking hazard you should use discretion when including it. That being said, lesson plans such as Sound Blocks contain small pieces that are in a sealed container. You may also wish to use a strong glue to permanently seal the containers shut. Consider adaptations such as these.

"Infants just want to put blocks in their mouths. That's not really STEM."
-Garcia Actually, yes it is. Infants are exploring the blocks using several senses. It is an experience in size, texture, taste, and shape. They are deciding whether the blocks will work for their purposes and at this point their purpose is to relieve teething, it seems.
