The facial expressions and body language of the kids give us a lot of clues on the animal they are pretending to be. For the wolf, the kid gestures harshly, he's not smiling and has a dark look. The kid who pretends to be a unicorn, his movements are excited and rapid, and he is grinning broadly.

The boy who claims to be a mean wolf - his facial expression is angry/aggressive and body language is strong, rough and powerful. Compare with the boy who claims to be a flying unicorn, he has happy facial expression with softer/more gentle body language.

Describe the facial expressions and body language of the child who claims to be a mean wolf. The child portraying the mean wolf has a more angry demeanor about himself. While the second child who was portraying a unicorn had a much more happy, upbeat and smiling demeanor about himself with more excited facial expressions.

The little girl who claims to be a mean wolf had a very serious facial expression, her face was angry and mean, her body language was very robotic and really expressive. As for the little boy who claims to be flying like a unicorn is very free and happy. His movements are free flowing and light, he’s smiling, laughing, and very excited to be sharing his story about the unicorn.

The child who is playing the role of the wolf has a much more tense facial expression to model the "evil" wolf. Her body language also was a lot more direct and forceful, including the way she was signing her words.

As far as the child playing the unicorn, they seemed a lot more open and almost spastic in their expression to try and represent a happy and fantastical demeanor. Their body language also was more expressive as well as upbeat, constantly keeping a smile while they signed about being a unicorn.

The child pretending to be a mean wolf is more serious, and angry in his actions to portray that of a mean wolf. The child who says they are a rainbow unicorn is more excitable and smiley, to portray that of a rainbow flying unicorn.

When the first child was telling his story they relied on serious and angry expressions to get their story across on how they are a mean wolf. Then when the child who was a red unicorn came along the story went from serious to exciting, light and happy as the child practically dance his story out with more light and happy expressions to tell their story. With each story you need to set a mood for it to be believable. No one would believe that the child was a mean wolf if they were smiling and happy, and vs versa with the Red unicorn being serious and angry.

The boy was the wolf was showing more of an angry or mean face while the red unicorn boy was portraying a happy , excitable face. It helped the us watching to understand the character they were playing.

Both children used facial expressions to show the character of the animal they wished to portray. The child claiming to be a mean wolf, scrunched his face into a snarl and his movements were quick and sharp. The child wanting to be a red unicorn had a happy, peaceful expression and his movements flowed smoothly.

The child who claimed to be the mean wolf used angry facial expressions and her body language intense while she was signing the words.
How does that compare to the boy who comes along and claims to be a flying unicorn? Why is this?
This compares to the boy that come along because they each were portraying the mood of the character that they were pretending to be. The child claiming to be the red unicorn was happy, excited and more peaceful because he wanted to portray the image of his character while The child pretending to be the red wold was more intense and angry looking.

Yes, I agree. I also saw that the one who was signing as a Unicorn- as less serious. There was a human playfulness when it came to the wolf as well (since you could see glimpses of joy through playing the part), but of course, not so much since he was showing the seriousness of the Wolf's role.

The boy pretending to be a wolf moved his body like a mean wolf, scrunching his face, crouching down, and moving his arms in a scratching like motion.
How does that compare to the boy who comes along and claims to be a flying unicorn?
The boy pretending to be the unicorn had a bright smile and made large expressions. His body language suggested he was signing about something happy.

Why is this?
They were describing different animals in different scenarios. The boy pretending to be a wolf said he was a mean wolf that was going to eat people up so his body language suggested a mean animal. The boy pretending to be the unicorn was talking about wind blowing through his hair as he flew a very happy thought.

Both children were very into what they were saying. If they were a wolf or a unicorn. the child who was saying they were a wolf looked angry and mean ( like a wolf) while the child who was saying they were a unicorn was happy and frilly ( as a unicorn would be).

The boy pretending to be a wolf was very into his signs and facial expressions and showing his emotions of being a mean wolf through his face. The child pretending to be a unicorn was also very into it but his facial expressions showed how “light” being a unicorn was in comparison to a mean wolf.

The child claiming to be a mean wolf had an angry or mad expression and body language while signing, while the boy who claimed to be a red unicorn had a happy excited demeanor. there demeanor's matched what they were describing while signing, a wolf tends to be an animal that is considered to be mean or hostile, hence the child's angry demeanor, and unicorns tend to be considered something magical/happy, which explains the boys expression and mannerisms while signing. they did this because expression/emotion is an extremely key part of ASL.

1. The child playing the wolf seemed to have more of an evil expression, and at the same time, the audience can tell that she was enjoying playing the role. She seemed pretty into pretending to be a wolf.

2. The child playing the red unicorn was more happy and joyful because he was trying to be an unicorn. The facial expressions make a huge difference.

The facial expressions and the body language of the child who was pretending to be a wolf were more harsh and violent looking. They kept a scowl on their face to show the grim intent of the big bad wolf character they were playing. The child playing the flying unicorn carried themselves quite a bit differently. In direct contrast to the sharp, aggressive movements of the child playing the diabolical wolf, the unicorn's movements were fluttery and giddy. The child presented their actions with smiles and silliness that helped convey the type of character they wished to portray.

The child who is pretending to be a wolf uses a more serious expression. The movements and body language show anger, strength and are harsh. The child who claims to be a unicorn is smiling. His body language and movements are more open and loose. Both children are using their facial expression and body language to emphasize the different characteristics of the animals in the story.

Both children are excited and happy to tell their stories. The child being the wolf uses angry, aggressive facial and physical expressions, obviously enjoying playing the part. The child being the unicorn moves his arms in a light and airy way, as if flying. His facial expressions are full of happiness and joy as he tells his story. The expressions and movements add a great deal to the both of the stories.

The boy pretending to be a wolf used mean expressions. He was very stiff and kept his arms close to his body and face with intense firm signs. His face showed grumpiness. The boy pretending to be a unicorn used happy expressions, carefree and big open movement and signs. His face showed excitement. The both displayed the role of how their character would behave.

I think both kids did very well with their facial expressions. they were conveying different emotions so their faces were different. the first one said it was a mean wolf so their face was more angry and looks "mean" while the other was a serine unicorn so their face was more calm and happy.

The child who is portraying a wolf looks very serious, mean, and angry (but also very composed, like they mean what they say and they want to be scary). By comparison, the boy who is portraying a red unicorn takes on the guise of a superhero who has the power to fly. He seems proud, empowered, and happy to be the red unicorn and has fun describing his character.

I was impressed with how well both of the children describe their characters. I believe both of them!

The little boy playing the wolf has a mean face and harsh jerky movements to imply he is bad and mean. The red unicorn boy is happy and carefree and smiles the whole time. His arms are flying all around and he has smooth movements.

The boy who is portraying a mean wolf is using facial expression
of being angry/aggressive and is portraying to be more strong and rough. He is using these expressions in order to portray a "mean" wolf. The other boy who is portraying a flying unicorn has happy facial expression and is overall more gentle. Compared to the other boy he is portraying a much nicer and happier animal. .

The child who was a rainbow unicorn was making relaxed, expressive faces. blowing his hair back as he "soared" through the sky.

Both children were acting like their characters.

A: He was made angry faces and squished his face and narrowed his eyes while saying how he would capture the grandmother. He made big movements whiling signing.


Q: How does that compare to the boy who comes along and claims to be a flying unicorn? Why is this?

A: He was grinning and gentle as he swayed to show flying his eyes open wide with apparent wonder at his abilities. He shows he is the good guy and nice instead of the bad guy and mean.

The child pretending to be a wolf is using angry and fierce facial expressions, since he is a mad/mean wolf. Their body expressions are also dramatic and large. The boy that pretends to be a flying unicorn is gleeful and cheery. The creature he is pretending to be has different characteristics than the mean wolf, and he is showing us that through corresponding facial expressions and body language.

The child pretending to be the wolf uses quick, abrupt signs and his face is scrunched up as though he his angry. The child pretending to be the unicorn uses softer, more flowing, longer lasting signs and has a smile on his face. I believe the two children are using the way that they sign (the speed and flow of the signs) and their facial expressions and body language to express something important about the qualities of what they are pretending to be.

1. The boy telling the story about a wolf has a furrowed brow, narrow eyes, pursed lips, and his movements are relatively small. He is telling a story about a mean wolf that does mean things, so his face looks grumpy in order to show the wolf's personality.
2. The boy talking about the unicorn is smiling, his eyes are wide and bright, and his movements are big.He's telling a story about a happy, free, magical unicorn, so his face looks happy and light to show the personality of the unicorn.

The child being the wolf had a frowning mouth, furrowed brow, narrowed eyes and sharp jerky motions; making their expression more grumpy/angry when speaking of the things that made the wolf mean (grabbing grandma)

The child being the unicorn had a smiling mouth, slightly lifted brows and quick excited motions. The different facial expressions between the children are showing the difference in their "characters" (a 'mean' wolf vs. a 'carefree' unicorn)

1. The child who was claiming to be a wolf was acting out the part while signing it. Her facial expressions and body language were acting the mean and mad roles.
2. The child being a unicorn had body language and facial expressions of a happy and excited. In the story he was telling showed one of joy while the wolf was one of fierce. Without the facial expressions, there would be no emotion in the story the children are telling.

I mentioned in a reply, that there was more of a serious tone to the "wolf" expression...and as a correction- its more than implying a non-fictional character. His body movements show his role as being serious (the plan and action of "capturing" a grandmother), which makes for very sharp and more abrupt movement. The Unicorn's movement is for the experience of flying and enjoying its life in the air..So the movements are more flowing and even fluttering (to show the excitement and perhaps trying capture the mystical imagery and feeling).

For the kid that is being a mean wolf the expressions are very serious, there is no smiling, and is very intentional movements to portray an angry, mean, wolf . Where as the child that is a unicorn, is fast moving, is smiling, happy and has quick movements, and is telling the story that they want to fly across the sky; which the movements show too.
