The Discussion Board is a tool for sharing thoughts and ideas about class materials. Vygotsky’s theory provides teachers with guidance on interactions with children who are learning new skills. It is important to remember that when first attempting a task, children need more help than after completing the task several times. As the child gains more experience the teacher can slowly withdraw support by observing the child. The words “I can do it myself” are a common way children let you know they no longer need assistance. As you interact with the children in your classroom, be aware of the times that you use guided learning/scaffolding.
