Because children need to move! Moving to music is natural for children...by moving to their own expression, it helps to create self esteem...promotes critical thinking when experiencing rhythm.

I would most certainly include dance and movement into my preschool program because not only it is a good way to exercise and get some energy out, it helps promote creativity. I also believe it helps students feel more at home and comfortable in the space. Music and rhythm can also improve information retention and math skills.

Music responds to the needs of children body , mind and soul. Children delight in music; singing it, dancing to it, identifying the rhythm and exploring movement. If I hold a circle and am not able to fit music in I feel as if I have missed a vital component.

Some kids will want to dance and others will not and that's o.k. but that's also how we get to know them, we began to realize, this child doesn't like dancing in big groups, maybe he/she is shy and is not out of their bubble yet, whatever the case may be, dancing is for everyone, it is fun and healthy!

It is healthy to work on movements that are not usual in walking and standing and sitting. It is important for children to experience and move all their body freely and with activities that promote these things. Also it is so entertaining for them and one as a teacher to give them this opportunity of self expression and building up their self confidence.

I like using dance in my program because
1- the children enjoy it. There’s nothing quite like seeing a child’s face light up when you turn on their favorite song
2- movement. Dancing burns energy while boosting the mood and encouraging creative movement
3- dancing uses imagination, many of our favorite songs have elements that involve acting like a certain animal, or making movements like certain professions (driving fire trucks, twirling like a ballerina, the baby on the bus goes.....). Imagination is the key to sparking creative expression

Music and dance is part of my preschool for many reasons. Yes, it is fun and great exercise, but its more than that. It's also art, individual expression of how they hear and see music and how they feel. It is also part of social development, because it is mostly done in groups. In groups, dance builds team work and can start friendships. Music and that expression of it, can release tension, sadness and emotions that children and others have a difficult time with. There's much more, but that's the main reasons.

Dance and moment provide many learning opportunities for children. They have the opportunity to practice coordination, balance and physical strength. Children also have to manage physical space and practice visual-spatial skills. Social emotional learning is embedded in activities that allow children to collaborative, such as making up their own silly songs or creating rhythms with instruments.
