A developmentally appropriate curriculum for infants and toddlers are individualized. What this means is that a curriculum is structured of what the child's interests are and where are they at developmentally in their stage of life.

It is making sure the curriculum matches there milestones and the stages they are on at the time. Each infant/toddler may be at different levels so it should match there emotional, cognitive, and physical levels.

Developmentally appropriate curricula means assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the children in your class, and basing your activities and interactions on that. You focus on building up the weaknesses and helping your children meet their milestones, while also giving them things you know they are good at to build their confidence.

Developmentally appropriate curriculum for infants and toddlers has 3 factors. The first factor is that it is developmentally appropriate for the child. For example, we should not be trying to have toddlers color within lines of a coloring sheet when they are still exploring the idea of crayons and markers. The second factor is individualizing the activity to the specific needs of the child. For example, if a child is just beginning to be able to grasp objects, we should provide more open-ended opportunities to grasp objects. And lastly, the curriculum must be culturally appropriate and should not overstep any social/cultural boundaries.

Developmentally appropriate curricula for infants and toddlers means creating an environment and activities that meet the needs of the individual child with an understanding of the familial and cultural practices of each child’s background. Using what is known about child development and through careful observation and analysis teachers can create developmentally appropriate curricula that meets the basic needs of and encourages growth and learning for each child in the program.

1) Describe what is meant by developmentally appropriate curricula for infants and toddlers.

After assessment and observation of the infants and toddlers in our care, we will create a developmentally appropriate curriculum making a clear list of their milestones, or goals we want to achieve with them through games, activities and strategically placed toys and objects. Knowing where they are at, and how they got there will help us create the best curriculum for them individually, appropriate for their age, needs and comfort.

In order to have developmentally appropriate curriculum we must first observe our infants/toddlers to see what they like, are interested in, what their learning style is and learn about their temperament. Then us as teachers are able to support their learning by tailoring the environment and materials they explore with to where they are developmentally and support their learning style.

Developmentally appropriate curriculum means having activities that are appropriate for the infant or toddler's age, milestones, and learning style. For example, it would be inappropriate to expect a 1 year old to only color within the lines, but it would be developmentally appropriate to provide them with crayons and work on their motor skills by letting them color anywhere on the paper.

Each child is unique. You should first intentionally observe each child. After reflecting on those observations and notes, use the information to plan and implement your curriculum. The curriculum should ensure that the activities and experiences provide opportunities for each child's growth and development across the domains.

Each child is different even when you have the exact say age group. Building a proper developmentally appropriate curriculum for different stages based on each child's physical, emtional, senses and development is how you build it. Giving each child what they need to grow with things that are the same that give them that familiar learning to build off of.
