I currently work with children in the age group of 18 months - four years.

Some favorite picture books during reading time:

The very hungry Caterpiller by Eric Carle
This picture book is colorful, simplistic, helps build counting skills, and interactive. Younger children can enjoy the colors, shapes and simplistic pictures. Count each bite the Caterpillar is taking, with the children. Doing so helps build strong counting skills. With older children you could ask a math question about the bites being taken. This book also has a happy ending which excites the Children. Also, there are so many crafts and games that can be made to go along with the book.

Another favorite would be any Curious George book. Curious George is an absolute favorite because hes fun, exciting and always on an adventure. It also shows the different outcomes of situations and how to experiment and learn from your results. Also, just good clean family fun.

I work with kids 2.5 to 6 years old.
My kids favorite picture books are:
Dog's colorful day: My kids love to tell the different colors dogs get from different things. They also love to count the dots dog has.
Trashy town: Kids love to sing the song " I dump it in, I smash it down". this books also help them learn a few sight words that come very often like " Stop, Yes and No"

I work with children ages 1-3. I have noticed that the kids really love the chick a chicka boom boom books. We have one that is about numbers and they just love it! Everyday they ask me to read it over and over. I think that the reason they love it so much is because it sounds like it could be a song or a rhym. They really like music and to have a book that we can almost sing the words to and have pictures is the greatest thing to them. Another set of books that they really like it the pet the cat books. In some ways the kids might be a little young but I think that its still good for them to hear and see the pictures....they will learn over time how to recognize those words and put them in their everyday speech.

Annie and the Wild Animals, The Wild Christmas Reindeer, The Mitten or really anything else by Jan Brett. Kids love the illustrations and how the borders give clues about what will come next.

Another favorite: But Not The Hippopotamus, the rhyming words are fun for them and they alway love the end when the hippo is included in the group.

I work with 4 and 5 year olds. Just some of their favorite books are Elephant and Piggy books. The expressions on the faces f Gerald and Piggy are priceless. Curious George is also well liked even though there is some debate if he’s politically correct, and I always call George a chimpanzee. Monkeys have tails. George doesn’t.

I work with preschool children. Some of the books that I have found most interesting are the Carl, the dog books. The illustrations are fabulous. The children watch the dog, in different situations, and can predict the outcome. Another book is The Very Hungry Caterpiller by Eric Carle is an excellent book that repeats and teaches counting and memory.

I work with mostly babies to early toddlers. A lot of our favorite books a simply small board books of almost any sort, that the children bring to me so that we can talk about the pictures. We go through the books and they call out colors they now or animals they can see. Top favorites are "Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What do you see?" and other books from that publisher. They can do the rhymes as they get to be 2 or older as well!

I am director of a center serving children one month through age twelve so the libraries in our classrooms cover a wide variety of books -- literacy levels and topics. Some of the favorites are If You Give a Mouse..., Dr. Seuss books, Eric Carle books, Pete the Cat, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

I'm a Pre-K teacher, so my class is filled with amazing 4 and 5 year olds! Currently, my students LOVE two books in particular!
1. 'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs', by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett! The illustrations and pictures used in the book are fun, unique and the children find them SO entertaining! (There are pictures of hamburgers falling from the sky, like rain and giant pancakes falling from the clouds!). The kids find the pictures very humorous and I often find them gathered around this book giggling their heads off!
2. 'Pete The Cat' by Eric Litwin is another of their favourites! The kids seem to be very drawn in by the simple yet bold illustrations in the book! They LOVE the color used on each page! The illustrator uses bright and fun colors in every drawing which draws the kids in more and more to engage with the story!

I work with children from 2 1/2 to 4. They love the The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. They love the pictures, the sequence of events, and counting and naming all the food that the caterpillar eats. They also love the last page and how beautiful the butterfly is.
