Children need to feel secure, safe, accepted, and loved in their relationships (with family, teachers, peers, etc.); they need a safe and stimulating environment to explore; they need proper health, sleep, and nutrition.

Children have an innate need to know where they are in their surroundings. Young children want to explore, but they want clear guidelines for where they can go, and how to get back. Helping children develop their orientation skills will ultimately help them navigate life, both physically and socially.

What do all young children need in order to thrive?

Children need a healthy positive environment where they are free to explore safely and develop without negative sources of stress. Both interaction with adults and others close to their age is helpful for growth. Children should also be given the opportunity to learn and play by themselves at times in addition to positive interaction with others. This can help them build self-independence and may give them confidence to try new things.

In order for children to thrive several components need to be taken into consideration. Removing backgrounds, culture, age and so on, there are certain needs each child needs to have met. In order to thrive safety and security tie into the relationships of those around them and the diet of each child, they must have a well balanced diet and include lots of rest and/or sleep.
