Exposing children to different kinds of art from different artists is in a way like brainstorming before an essay. It allows the student to think of all the possible ideas of art there can be and how best to put it on paper. Learning multiple ways to convey a message allows the children to tap into what they feel and how to think creatively.

Bringing to children many different artist's work and carrying on conversations regarding the artist's life, helps to show children there is now right or wrong way to do art. Art is one's own, one's self expression.

By allowing children to view other artist work, it gives children a sense of creativity of their own. When they see how others have used materials and mediums, it allows them to see that being creative is in the eye of the beholder and that they can do anything through art.

In art there is no right way or wrong way of doing it! Art is a form where people learn how to express themselves. Most artists make several mistakes and they thrive off that. Which is something I want to teach children, just because you did not make a "perfect" heart it doesn't mean its ugly or you're not "good' at doing art, it means that you are learning and that you should not give up!

Sharing artist's work with children can inspire in many ways. A teacher can discuss the kind of art that person created, such as cubism, impressionism, Dadaism. Children can then create their own work based on a particular style. Teachers can also choose similar color palettes to those of famous artworks. Or teachers can ask children to create work based on how certain artwork makes them feel

Showing children artwork from artists such as Pollock or Kandinsky can help young children feel like creating art is accessible and possible for them...paint drips and colorful shapes are well within the reach of many preschoolers! Pointing out the artwork and illustrations in favorite books is another way for children to value and appreciate art, and feel empowered to see themselves as artists.
