Drying Mittens Pretend Play

Age Group: ​
  • Preschool
* Lesson plan objectives and assessments can be adapted to use this activity with school-age students.

Objectives:  
  • Student will engage with dramatic play materials 
  • Student will participate in cooperative play with other students

CDA Competency Standard:   ​
II.7.3a
  • Activities and materials encourage children to develop their imaginations
a) Dramatic play materials and activities are available for children daily

Materials:  
  • mittens
  • clothespins
  • string

Procedure: 
  1. Set up the dramatic play area by hanging strings across an appropriate area
  2. Lay out clothespins and mittens
  3. Show student how to use the clothespin to hang the mittens
  4. Give them plenty of time for play

Assessment: 
  • Observe and record students as they engage in dramatic play. How did they interact with other students? How did they use the materials? Be sure to record any dialog they have during the activity.
