Understanding technology, including its etiquette, is a part of your professional development as a teacher. Most likely, you will be emailing parents, directors, and/or coworkers on a daily basis. It is imperative that you know the ins and outs to appropriate emailing.
Here are some ideas to consider when emailing:
Have a professional email address.
Know that whoever you are sending an email to looks at who it is from. Make sure yours is appropriate. When in doubt, use some sort of variation on your first and last name.
Do not use abbreviations or “text talk”.
Remember that when you are writing an email, you are not writing a text, therefore, most abbreviations are not appropriate. Take the extra few moments to write out the entire word. Whoever is reading your email will be grateful you did.
Do not write in all capitals.
THIS IMPLIES THAT YOU ARE YELLING.
Above all, proof before you send.
Take a moment to reread what you have typed before pressing the “send” button.
