Learning Outcomes

Course Overview

Program planning involves taking each child’s strengths, ability levels, capabilities, and temperament into consideration. This information gives teachers and caregivers the tools they need to create a well-balanced program that values diversity, respect, and inclusion. The following course will assist in planning program activities for students with different learning styles, exceptionalities, and temperaments.

  • Washington STARS credit: Program Planning and Development  (2 hours)
  • CDA Content Area: Effective Program Operation (2 hours)
Objectives: 
  • After completing the course the student will be able to put into practice a nurturing, supportive and respectful view of diversity that helps children to develop a positive self-identity.
  • Students will use the information presented to meet the needs of children with exceptionalities for physical, behavior, intellectual, communication and cognitive performance.
Student will:
  • ILLUSTRATE an understanding of the term modality.
  • APPLY information provided in the training to identify a modality for a math activity.
  • ILLUSTRATE ways to adapt activities for different learning styles.
  • IDENTIFY ways to treat all children respectfully and individually.
  • EXPLAIN one way to promote diversity in their program.
  • IDENTIFY three modifications that can be made to your materials, program, or classroom to accommodate exceptional learners.
  • LIST three characteristics of a quality inclusive child care program

Meet the Trainer for this Course ​​​

Aurora is an approved Washington State STARS Trainer.
​Aurora Tollestrup graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a minor in English. She has worked with children and families from preschool to seventh grade in public and private schools in her community as a teacher, advocate and volunteer. A strong community connection and working relationships with colleagues influenced her teaching practices and continue to inspire her work in Education. She believes that educators with a passion for the success and wellbeing of the children they work with need tremendous support and that is where her motivation comes from. ​​ ​
Aurora is the Coordinator of Online Learning and Instructional Technology with Successful Solutions Training in Child Development.
