"When is a good time to use a Roald Dahl book as a read-aloud?"
-Ruben Roald Dahl books are especially great pieces for read-alouds. I have known teachers to use that time as a calming period after recess, after their end of day routine, or first thing in the morning. It is important to work this time into your existing schedule and do what is best for your group.

"I don't think kids should be allowed to read scary books at all but my lead teacher doesn't see a problem with it."
-LeRa Consider a compromise, then. Open communication truly is the key with any co-teaching situation and the more willing you are to work through it together the better results you will see.
