Flexibility is something that is often taken away in the workplace. Yes, staff members are required to be in their position at their scheduled time, however, adding some flexibility can motivate staff as well.
Life still goes on outside of work and sometimes the two streams will cross.
How to be flexible:
Give ‘em a break
Choose a staff member each day to give an extra break to. Cover them for five minutes so that they may get some fresh air, make that phone call, or just get some peace and quiet.
If you can, give a day off of work as a reward. Everyone needs some “me time” but many are convinced that they haven’t earned it. If your staff already get paid "personal days" make it clear that they should use them.
Give staff members “preference” week. Let them call “dibs” on doing or not doing something that week. For example, Miss Stephanie is six months pregnant and has a hard time bending down to tie shoes before recess. Allow her to call dibs on helping with jackets before recess this week.
