Objectives:
  • Children will develop their musical abilities

CDA Competency Standard:
III.7.2a
  • Activities and materials encourage children to dance, move and develop their musical abilities.
a. Music and dance/movement materials and activities are available for children daily
Materials:  
  • Hands
  • Drumsticks
Procedure: 
  • Children explore the classroom with hands and drumsticks testing the sounds of the equipment, materials and elements such as the door. The leader sends the children out in to the room to find something to tap, then models a rhythm that they will do.
  • Then the children seek out another tapping spot. Do this at least three times, but more than that might be a little much.
  • The children gather back at their circle spot to discuss what they did.
Assessment: 
  • Observe and record children’s reactions to this activity back at circle.
