Red flags in speech and language development are good to keep in mind but should be handled with appropriate and careful action. Just because a child exhibits behavior that may raise a red flag it doesn’t mean that they need immediate and intensive intervention. Instead, it is important to document what you are seeing and report this information to parents. Ultimately, parents have the responsibility of getting intervention for their child but child care professionals and educators can help support intervention and document what is happening.
