Learning Outcomes

Course Overview
Good early childhood program planning focuses on children’s learning styles and characteristics. It often organizes important concepts into themes. It also tailors learning experiences to children’s ages and stages of development. It requires detailed planning and flexibility. This course will review the important aspects of program planning, including goals, learning activities, balancing activities, open-ended art vs. crafting and play materials.

  • Washington STARS credit: Curriculum and Learning Environment (1 hour)
  • CDA Content Area: Effective Program Operation (1 hour)
Objectives:
  • DESCRIBE key points you must consider when planning curriculum.
  • IDENTIFY at least one factor that should be considered when providing play equipment in your program.
  • EXPLAIN the purpose of a transition in an early childhood setting.
  • COMPARE and EVALUATE open-ended art and crafting.

Meet the Trainer for this Course

Aurora Tollestrup, BS Ed
Aurora Tollestrup graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a minor in English. Aurora has taught several grades in both public and private schools and enjoys working with students, families and teachers from all backgrounds. Her hobbies include traveling, reading and history as well as enjoying the Pacific Northwest with her family and two spoiled dogs. She believes that educators with a passion for the success of their students need tremendous support and that is where her focus lies.

Aurora is a full time Curriculum and Instruction Specialist and Online Educator with Successful Solutions Training in Child Development.
