In the United States, many students attempt to learn a second language by the time they graduate high school. While foreign language studies are becoming more available for younger children in some areas, many students are not given the opportunity to do so until upper level grades. Unfortunately, the few years they are given to study a different language in their late teens are not enough. Many adults remember very little of the language they learned. In order to retain a language, it is best to start at a young age. Incorporating a second language into an Early Childhood Classroom is not only engaging for your students, but it provides cognitive advancements and helps them become well-rounded learners.
