Learning Outcomes

Course Overview
The creative arts are a staple in just about every preschool classroom and for good reason! Art is a fundamental aspect of early childhood education. This course discusses famous artists, including Monet, Picasso, Georgia O'Keeffe, Jackson Pollock and more and how to integrate their works into your art instruction. It also includes lesson plans that can be adapted for your specific preschool classroom.

  • CDA Content Area:  Advancement of Physical and Intellectual Development (3 Hours)
Course Objectives:​​
  • Describe how to use the work of other artists to inspire children in their own art
  • Discuss and explain what artist they would teach about
  • Examine the difference between process and product art
  • Explore a variety of lesson plans and describe how to use them in their own classrooms

Meet the Trainer for this Course

​Erika Geelhoed-Booth is originally from western Colorado and graduated with a BA in Elementary Education from Colorado Mesa University. She has volunteered in many classrooms, taught Sunday school, and has been an adult literacy tutor. Shortly after graduating college, she moved to Washington to begin teaching full-time in a Kindergarten classroom.  In her free time, she enjoys trying anything adventurous or outdoorsy such as camping, rafting, and ice climbing. She also loves curling up with a good book and playing with her Cocker Spaniel, Charlie. She looks forward to having little ones of her own one day. Erika believes that children are born with all the curiosity that they will ever need, and that it is our job as teachers to show them what to do with it.  Erika was previously a  full time Education Resource Coordinator at Successful Solutions Training in Child Development. Erika has returned to teaching in the classroom, however we continue to appreciate her contribution of the many courses that she developed while working at Successful Solutions.
