Materials and equipment stimulate children’s thinking and problem-solving
a) Materials and equipment provide a variety of opportunities for cognitive development
Materials:
rainbow colored rice
Large plastic bin
Pairs of items for every color of the rainbow
Scoops
Cups or small bowls
Procedure:
Prepare the sensory bin by adding all the materials to the large plastic bin.
Find a comfortable place to introduce the sensory bin to the child.
Ask the child to help you find the match to an item. Repeat the name of the items several times.
**Always monitor children during sensory play.
Assessment:
Observe and record the child’s problem-solving skills. Were they able to locate the matching item? Did they attempt to repeat the word back to you?
