Math Exploration for Infants and ToddlersMath for Toddlers |
Page 9 |
When a toddler throws an item across the room, they are learning that lighter items do not go as far as heavier items.
This is a comparison activity that teaches them the relationship between flight and weight. This is also an opportunity to measure the weight of the two items to explore their properties. The very common act of a toddler throwing a toy or other item is in many ways an important math exercise, while inconvenient and possibly dangerous, it is not intended to annoy or bother a caregiver or peer. It is a normal part of toddler development and math skill development.
