“I have come to dread outside time. It has become a free-for-all, and my students are always getting hurt or into some sort of mischief. Help!” – Mandi
From my experience, unwanted behavior is a direct result of boredom. Try rotating activities and games more frequently to keep your students engaged. Also, just like in your classroom, playground rules need to be reviewed periodically throughout the year. Have a class conversation with your students about safe behavior on the playground. You may need to model and/or revise rules as a group.

“My students get hardly any time outside, and I am not sure that I can change my current schedule to give them more time. What can I do?” – Ming
Talk with your director about adjusting your daily schedule to see if you can get even just a few more minutes of outside time every day. He or she may have some ideas. If that is not possible, see what you can do about incorporating more physical activity inside the classroom (i.e. brain breaks, combining movement with curriculum, or even just stretching more often).
