Course Overview

​​(2 hours) Online Self-Paced – Open Enrollment * Everyone enjoys a fun game with friends. Games are not only enjoyable, but they are an important piece of a child’s development in the preschool classroom. Participating in a game gives children the opportunity to practice social skills, follow directions, use teamwork and reasoning, and even exercise during outdoor activities. This course will discuss why games are important, ways to implement them in classroom lesson planning, and how to take advantage of the many learning opportunities that will come along.

  • Washington STARS Credit:  Child Growth, Development, and Learning (2 hours)
  • CDA Content Area:  Principles of Child Growth and Development (2 hours)
Objectives: 
  • Identify and debunk myths regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Describe typical symptoms associated with autism
  • Give examples of helpful instructional strategies that educators can use with children with autism in their classrooms
  • List several medical issues that may accompany ASD
  • Identify common “red flags” of development that educators should be familiar with
  • Describe your role as an educator for assisting parents and guardians with the diagnosis of autism

Meet the Trainer for this Course ​​​​​

Kimberlee Turner, MS Ed
Kimberlee Turner recently achieved her Master of Science Degree in Higher Education from Walden University. She also graduated from Eastern Washington University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Developmental Psychology and a minor in Psychology. Kimberlee has worked with children diagnosed with autism as an ABA Therapist and Registered Behavior Technician in both an in-home setting and center-based setting. As the oldest child, she helped care for her younger brother who has disabilities, and this led her to a strong desire to work with children who are affected by disabilities. Kimberlee firmly believes that every child should have access to an inclusive and supportive environment and it is our job as educators to provide that for them.
Kimberlee is a full time Student Advisor and Support Specialist at Successful Solutions Training in Child Development.
