Safety First!
As an educator, your first priority should always be the safety of your students. Sensory activities will need to be closely supervised.
Please provide adequate supervision to the children in your care when completing all activities. You will need to decide what types of activities are safe for the children in your classroom. Appropriate and reasonable caution should be used when providing art and sensory experiences for children. |
However, you will need to take into account the appropriateness of the materials for the children in your care. If a sensory bin has small items that can be choked on if put in the mouth, it may not be a good fit for young children.
Infants and toddlers require special precaution, only use non-toxic materials, and do not allow young children to put things in their mouths that are a choking hazard. There are a variety of taste-safe materials that can be used as bases for younger children. |
