Social media can be a great resource to connect with other educators and acquire new and exciting ideas for their classroom. Unfortunately, if not used correctly, it can also harm your teaching career. If you have any form of social media, including Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, etc., make sure that you are protecting yourself and your future as a teacher.

Be mindful of what you post.
Before you post anything online, take a second to think about how it reflects on you as an educator.

Don’t post during work hours.
Remember that with most social medias, there is a time stamp associated with posts that your employer can see. It is your job to make sure all of the children in your care are safe, and if you are on social media, you are not giving them your full attention.

Be cautious of who you “friend”.
It is not always a great idea to “friend” parents and coworkers. Understand that some people do not have the best of intentions.

Avoid venting
Posting information about students or coworkers, even if names are not used, is never appropriate.

Make sure that your profiles are private.
Be aware that the whole world has access to your information if your account is not private. For more information on privacy settings, use the resources below.
