Another major source of motivation is stability in the workplace. This refers to long and short term stability. Employees who feel that they are in a stable work environment are highly motivated and will help to boost morale for others.

Some suggestions:

Consistency ​

Picture
Be consistent with work, incentives, advancement and more. If a director is inconsistent it becomes difficult for staff to feel confident in their position at the center.

Build Confidence 

Picture
Do everything in your power to make sure that staff members are confident, you are confident, and that everything is being handled appropriately and professionally. Nobody wants to work somewhere where they allow the animals to run the zoo.

Lead 

Picture
Everyone needs a boss and that means making the difficult decisions and dealing with the difficult matters that may arise. Be the leader that makes sure the center is stable and successful.

Fulfillment

​Easily the biggest motivator in any career field is the feeling of fulfillment. Feeling fulfillment in your career is a combination of happiness, purpose, and making a difference. Early childhood professionals are unique in their ability to allow the fulfillment they feel in their careers to outweigh the often stressful work environment that they are immersed in. It is important to allow that feeling of fulfillment to continue to outweigh the common daily stressors in child care

How to support this:

  • Highlight their impact – Make sure that teachers know the impact they are making and furthermore, be sure to let them know that you see it as well.
  • Share the success – Your center’s success is largely in part to your staff. Share the successes, big and small, with your staff!
  • Recognize the effect – Positive interactions have a lasting effect and it is important that staff know this. Recognize them for the positive aspects of their position.
  • Trust them – More than anything, these are child care professionals and you should treat them accordingly.
