"Some of the themes in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are scary for kids."
-Cher Maurice Sendak was rather famous for arguing that childhood is scary, therefore books where characters take on scary monsters and events were even more important. "The movies are really good. Should I show them to my class?"
-Tawangela The short answer is "probably not." The movies are not designed for classroom use and are rated at a higher level than what is appropriate for school-age children in a classroom setting. Above this, however, is the fact that this can take so much away from the magic of the books. Let the books survive on their own in your program and let the children use their imaginations without the help of Hollywood.
