The flipped classroom is a term that refers to a classroom where the students often lead the instruction and complete their assignments and tasks using technology or alternative means. Some classrooms take the flipped classroom approach to a level of full immersion where students complete homework-type activities in class and complete the instruction portions of their schooling on an individual basis at home, or afterschool. Other classrooms take the flipped classroom model and use some of its elements, but not all. Student-led learning and the concept of a flipped classroom are similar, but are still strikingly different.
A great example of a flipped classroom can be seen in the following video. While this is in a school-age classroom, consider similar applications for preschool classrooms, afterschool programs, and child care programs.
