PROGRAM PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT (10 Hours) LEVEL 3-4
What is an Instructional Strategy?
An instructional strategy is the way in which an educator will present information, activity, task or support. The following is considered developmentally appropriate practice. Consideration should be taken in three categories of DAP teaching strategies: Understanding child development, the process of learning, awareness of individual needs and knowing what is culturally important. When instructional strategies are tied to the needs and interests of students, learning is enhanced. Instructional strategies should be directly tied to the curriculum, desired student outcomes, and classroom assessments.
*Review/Check for prior knowledge: “Yesterday we counted how many windows we have in our classroom. Hmm, who remembers how many windows we have? Let’s count them again, will we get the same number, let’s find out.”

Provide information (in a variety of forms): “Today we are going to read 'Who Lives in the Ocean.' This is the cover, this is the spine, and this is the back of the book. The author’s name is Betty Boo, and the illustrator is Mr. Boo. The author is the person who wrote the words we read, and the illustrator is the person who drew the pictures.”
